Engage in research, fieldwork and experiential courses in West Africa through the U’s close collaboration with Ensign Global University in Kpong, Ghana.

The Prosperity U Global and Ensign Global University partnership is committed to offering world-class courses and programming that:

  • Connects students with hands-ons, impactful, international experiences that will forever shape their perspective and ability to make a difference in the world
  • Empowers researchers with the tools, field sites, and relationships necessary to generate scholarly work that is context-informed and impact-driven
  • Greatly improves health and economic development for the people of Ghana and across West Africa
  • Results in globally applicable solutions that benefit other regions and countries, including the United States

Opportunities for University of Utah Students

Both undergraduate and graduate students can take advantage of several opportunities to advance their study in Ghana:

Center for Business, Health, and Prosperity/Eccles Global: Business Development in Emerging Markets (ENTP 5850)
Held during the summer semester and is open to undergraduate and graduate students from all majors. The course spends three weeks in Ghana each summer conducting hands-on, project-based learning, primarily in the areas of health and community development. See link for details. There is also an optional fourth week in Oxford, England.

Center for Business, Health, and Prosperity/Eccles Global: Prosperity Promotion and Entrepreneurship (ENTP 5800/6800)
Offered during the spring semester. This interactive, resume-building course partners students with local Ghanaian businesses to provide consulting under the advisement of top U of U faculty members. This half-semester course meets one night a week on campus and culminates with spring break in Ghana.

Prosperity U Internship
Offers students the opportunity to develop real-life skills to support their future career and educational goals by working on projects in Ghana either as part of the courses highlighted above or independently throughout the academic year. See link for details.

For all Center for Business, Health, and Prosperity courses and internships, students will want to complete a Learning Abroad application. There are also several $2000 Prosperity U Scholarships offered as part of each course and for which all students can apply.  Both applications are available at the links for each program. Students participating in these programs will also take part in cultural excursions that allow them to experience the daily life, hospitality, and natural beauty of Ghana.
