What is a Faculty-led Learning Abroad Program?
Faculty-led programs represent just one of the many avenues available to University of Utah students who want to study abroad. These programs integrate the academic expertise of faculty with immersive, hands-on education in foreign locations.
Students earn University of Utah credits while participating in these faculty-led learning abroad programs during short-term sessions (for instance Spring or Fall break), as well as full semesters or summer terms.
Why Lead a Program?
Leading a program offers several benefits to both faculty and their departments. Learning Abroad encourages faculty to initiate conversations with department heads and deans to explore additional program support at the college level.
Start Planning Now!
Developing a new program typically begins 12-18 months before the initial student group departs. Lead time is important to allow proper coordination with various campus and host country offices.
The Learning Abroad office is currently accepting proposals for new faculty-led programs scheduled for the following:
2025
- Spring
- Spring Break
- Summer
- Fall
- Fall Break
2026
- Winter Break
Next Steps
Please refer to the Learning Abroad Faculty Director’s Handbook for detailed application instructions. Proposals are due May 15, 2024.
