Effective August 1, 2024, the University of Utah has implemented a new blanket insurance policy through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) for all faculty, staff, and students traveling for University-related business and programming. While enrollment is still required, there will be no additional cost to individual travelers.
Previously, travelers had to register for coverage individually and were charged separately, requiring them to pay and request reimbursement from their department. Under the new blanket policy, the registration process is essential to activate coverage and ensure access to all benefits and support services, but no payment will be necessary.
The pathway for registering trips and securing insurance coverage is as follows:
Employees
Step 1: Login to Concur
Step 2: Register your Trip
Step 3: Enroll in CISI through emailed instructions and link
Students
Step 1: Use Student Travel Registration link to login to TerraDotta
Step 2: Complete program requirements to register your trip
Step 3: Enroll in CISI through emailed instructions and link
Please note that while the new policy covers University travelers at no cost, there is still a payment process for dependent coverage. This optional benefit provides high-value, low-cost coverage for non-employee travel companions. Find out more on our FAQs.
“The University of Utah’s switch to a blanket international travel, health, and emergency evacuation insurance plan is a significant improvement for our community. This funded coverage eliminates individual billing and payments, streamlining the enrollment process and improving compliance for all international travelers. After enrolling, travelers gain access to full benefits, travel support, and emergency assistance, providing essential coverage and safety resources to support their well-being while traveling abroad,” said Parker Pflaum, Associate Director of Global Engagement and Risk Management.
